大繁盛！ (It’s hopping!)

大好きなベーカリーにて、ランチをピックアップして、友人のお宅へお邪魔した。できるなら、外食は避けようか、くらいの気分で、テイクアウトにしたのだが、大正解。満席で席が空くのを待っている人達だけでなく、テイクアウトの注文の列もできていた。結局、注文してから20分以上待たされた。 (I brought a takeout lunch from my favorite bakery to a friend’s place. We were thinking of dining out but decided to do the takeout. Good thing we did; the place was packed with people waiting for a table. The line for takeout orders was long, too. I ended up waiting for 20 minutes after placing the order.)

豚肉に火を通してほぐしたプルドポークとペストソースのクレープ、スモークサーモンサラダと赤ピーマンのクリームスープ。どれも待った甲斐あった。 (The pulled pork crepe with pesto sauce, the salad with smoked salmon and the red pepper bisque. They were all worth waiting for.)

ランチの後、友人の娘さんが、アマチュアオーケストラとソリストとして演奏するので、聴きに行った。近くの高校のホールでのコンサートで、正直、人が来るのか心配していたら、とんでもなかった。雪の降る、寒い日にもかかわらず、駐車場はいっぱい。500人以上入るホールもかなり埋まっていて、驚いた。一応、この州はまだマスクが義務付けられていて、皆さんちゃんと守ってるのでちょっと安心。これからも、出来ることをして、パンデミックと共に生きていく、という事なのかもしれない。 (After lunch, I went to hear friends’ daughter play a concerto with an amateur orchestra. It was held at the auditorium of a high school close by and I was worried that the audience might be really small. How wrong I was!! Although it was a cold, snowy day, the parking lot was full and the auditorium that seats more than 500 people was pretty full. The mask mandate is still in place in our State and most people cooperate. Thank goodness. We’ll live with the pandemic for a while longer and go on with our lives doing what we can.)

帰りに寄ったアイスクリーム店も、結構流行ってた。この街の人たちにとって、寒さは関係ない！このお店のアイスクリームは、いつもはみ出すくらい入っていて嬉しい。(I stopped by an ice cream shop on the way home which had a good amount of people as well. The cold weather doesn’t stop this town! This local store has its pints packed over the rim. So generous!)
